Pixilated Houndstooth skirt gets an airing

It's been a very busy week at work, and the weather is still more warm than cold, so I've been trying to wear my summery clothes just a bit longer before the chilly weather hits.

I recently exchanged my J Crew Pixilated Houndstooth for a bigger size. I originally got the 00 petite, but I felt it was a bit too short for my middle-aged knees. I re-bought it on super sale in size 00 regular, and am much happier with the length. For reference the 00P was only 18", whereas the 00 is 21". Much more elegant on someone of my age. The only small thing is that it's a bit roomier in the hips and derrière, so poofs out a bit on my boyish lower half. I might get it taken in a smidge, but will see how I go for a few wearings before deciding.

Here it is with an old Wrangler jacket. Note I'm wearing sandals instead of running shoes! Sadly, it's only for the pics. I still don't want to risk walking in anything other than my vile Nikes.

The sandals are coral leather ones with a 2" chunky heel by L'Autre Chose, bought on Shoescribe for $80. I love them - they're very comfy and have my ideal heel height.

If I have time this weekend I'm going to post an ode to my shoes with some better pics. I've been inspired by other bloggers' shoe porn posts.

Under I wore a Wolford Athens top in deep purple colour. I LOVE Wolford! Their tights and tops are incredibly good quality. I have Wolford cotton opaques that are still in great condition after 6 years! They aren't cheap, but they just last and last. Not to mention the very high cotton content, which I adore in winter.

Here's another predictably bright work outfit, seen before on this blog when I was still on crutches.

J Crew factory skirt (taken in), J Crew Jackie cardigan, old Mulberry postman's lock saddle bag, J Crew blue bangle. And runners.

Hope you have a fab weekend. Is anyone else a fan of Wolford?

  1. You were right to exchange the skirt, because the fit looks so much better.I love how you paired it with the denim jacket, thats how i would wear it too.
Exchange is always a hassle, but it was def worth it!
I regret not to have gotten the shift dress in the print of your factory skirt. The print is just georgious!

    1. It is much better. I'm ashamed to admit that the other one hasn't been returned yet due to lack of organisation. I might donate it or try to resell it on the JCA.....
Hope you're having a good weekend

  2. Love that skirt Ruth - looks so good on you, and really great with the sandals... but stay strong and keep the runners on! Have never tried Wolford - the initial price for tights is always quite off putting, but if they last as you say then maybe I should give them a shot.

The Jackie cardigan is one of my favourite J Crew pieces. I have it in navy and it's the perfect transeasonal piece.

    1. I will stay strong! I have never bought Wolford items in Australia, Heidi, as they're ridiculously over-priced here! I buy in bulk when I go back to Europe. Tights are about €19 as opposed to $100 here, and those Athens tops are about 75% cheaper too.
eBay is sometimes a good place too, if you can find a good seller.
Jackie cardigans are great. wish they had them in more colours!

    2. I can't believe the price difference!!! I always thought it was ridiculous to spend that sort of money on tights.... My highest price to date were Rede at around $40... and I naturally put a hole in them on their second wearing, so it put me off anything too expensive after that. Shall check websites and eBay to see if I can find a good price on the Wolford - thanks for the tip off. xx

    3. Check out the UK or German site for the best prices. Unfortunately they don't ship here, but if you've got friends or are off for a trip, it's great to buy in bulk!

  3. My gosh, if i was working, that pixilated houndstooth would be mine! I just can't justify another skirt, but it looks awesome, as do all the rest! I may have to do a shoe porn post, too, shoes are my one true love!

    1. Thanks Wendy! I'll be wearing it to work and for play, but it's not the most durable of fabrics, so prob not a very sensible purchase long-term.
      Bring on the shoe porn!!

  5. Love both outfits! The regular size of the pixilated houndstooth skirt is definitely a better length. The coral sandals are perfect with the skirt. Happy Friday!

    1. Thanks Louise, and thanks also for your post on deep conditioners! I tried to comment on it but my work computer was having a moment and wouldn't let me post.
