The Purple dress

Today I finally got my bargain J Crew V neck wool dress.
It's a beautiful colour:

I got size 00, and it's quite roomy on me; I'd say it's a big cut. I'll probably need to get it tailored through the waist and hips.

I'm wearing it over pants here... Very glam with the running shoes, too

It is arse-revealingly short when I raise my arms.... But I can live with it. I don't raise my arms that often.... And will just have to remember to keep arms down in polite company.

I'm wearing it out tonight with black opaques (Sydney is having a chilly moment) and a leather jacket.

Here's a pic with my new boot. I can't get the left one on due to my cankle, but perhaps you can get an idea of how this outfit might look if I could wear proper footwear.

  1. I like your dress,it looks better with a tailored jacket over it.
    Purple is your color!
I received my boyfriend fatique in xxs and it fits much better.
Just not sure if i should keep it since its expensive.
It is mostly a jacket to wear with denim.
    What do you think?

    1. Thanks Ina! I've just posted on your blog about the BF jacket. I'd say it's a keeper!

  2. Even if you don't get it tailored I think you have the gams to wear a loose shape on top. Be sure to raise your arms with abandon in impolite company.

    1. Thanks Louise, it's a good fine. I wore it out last night and felt great in it, despite the running shoes!

  4. Love the colour on you Ruth, and love it with the new boots too. Can't believe it's roomy and a 00 though?! xx

    1. Thanks Heidi! Vanity sizing is truly out of control! I'm petite, but not that small. I find it hard to believe that size 00 exists for adults. I used to be a UK size 6 or 8, but these days size 6 swims on me. I certainly haven't got smaller, so there's something afoot with sizing....

    2. I so agree - I'm between an old 8-10 Australian (not in Country Road sizing I add which is totally ridiculous), but I fit a US 2 now... used to be a 6 around 10 years ago, then a 4. Next stop a 0 I guess. On the other extreme, I have found some Australian designers that want to avoid the larger customer size down... and I have been a 12 in them! It's frustrating and timewasting, and I feel sorry for the truly tiny people out there who must be dressing from the girl's size ranges.

    3. Country Road sizing is outrageous! Their size 4 swims on me; I really feel sorry for truly tiny girls who are totally unable to buy clothes that fit.
You're right about some Australian designers, though. Dion Lee runs small, and Scanlan occasionally fit small.

  5. That purple is your color, it's so pretty with your coloring. Great outfit with the boots. Guess you'll have to think of this dress as a tunic? ;)

    1. Thanks Tiffany Rose. Yes, it's a tunic for sure. Without tights it would be too terrifying for public consumption. Imagine how indecent this would be on a woman of average to above average height! J Crew are deluding themselves and deceiving their customers by calling this a dress....!

    1. Thanks Wendy. It's a good dress for me - wouldn't want to be wearing it sans tights, though - it might frighten the students!

  7. I think it's adorable on you, and the color is fantastic. I picked this one up in store in navy, but will be wearing it only as a tunic, as I'm 5'6" and it's waaay too short for me!

    1. Thanks! The navy looks gorgeous too - it would be very tunic-y on you at 5'6".
I wonder why J Crew insist on these ridiculously short lengths? Seems mad to me...

  8. You got your leg back, congratulations! I don't think this dress runs big. I really think you're much smaller in JC sizes than you expect to be. :)

I may well be smaller in J Crew, but I don't think they do a smaller size :-(
