Fog.... and Guilty Confessions

This morning my walk to work looked like this:

Sydney has been blanketed by a covering of fog/mist for the last two mornings. It's such an unusual occurrence. I don't think I've ever seen fog here before.
It was quite beautiful in a damp kind of way. Plays havoc with one's hair, though!

The next part of this post is a confession:

Forgive me, readers, for I have sinned. I have coveted and then succumbed to ordering items from J Crew. I had vowed to stay away for whole month, but have fallen off the wagon 2 days early.......
Mitigating circumstances exist, however. My crocheting superstar friend, C is in New York this week on a work trip. She offered to pick me up a few little bits and pieces from Sephora and J Crew, and it was just too good of an opportunity to pass up. Prices are much lower in the US, plus she got the 30% off deal... so in reality I saved money (can you believe the utter nonsense I tell myself to justify my crapness?)

C got me the lovely necklace above, and this scarf below:

I love the floral punk print, but didn't think any of the clothes would suit me. The scarf will add a touch of brightness to my foggy days.
The necklace is just pure indulgence.... hope it suits me and that I like it!

The other confession is this skirt:

I've become a bit obsessed with it since it appeared on the site. C offered to get it for me too, but it wasn't reduced and it's too big of a risk to get it and then not be able to return it if it's a disappointment or doesn't fit.
Beach Chic Style has reviewed it on her blog and had a bit of a sizing issue - it fits very small, apparently. This could be a good thing for me, but it's risky to get it without the option of returning it.

Anyway, I took the plunge today and ordered it with the magalog15 code that gives international customers 20% off and free shipping and returns. It is back-ordered 'til 13th July, so patience is in order.
Many thanks must go to both C and Wendy, for offering to mule it for me from Canada. It seemed silly to put Wendy through the hassle for a $30 saving, not to mention the aforementioned risk of not being able to return it.

So endeth my confession.
Have you sinned recently? I hope so!!

  1. Oh yes. Just fell off the wagon on the Netaporter US sale last night. A pair of gold MiuMiu heels with glitter on the underside are winging their way to me. To ensure the shipping wasn't wasted I also bought a pair of navy Valentino wedges for Summer too. Of course I need summer shoes desperately at the moment. And the glittery gold shoes aren't exactly school gate appropriate.....more for all those nights out I don't go on... but oh well! Love your choices. That butterfly skirt is really beautiful. xx

    1. Yay for falling off the wagon in style! Just spent a good 20 mins looking at the NAP sale. Your shoes and wedges sound like a sound investment ;-)
Photos of them when they arrive, please!!!
I can't justify any stuff with the high shipping (why is it so high??) but have a big wishlist for when the international sale starts!

  2. Oh Ruth - you are too funny! Good for you on ordering the skirt! I dithered on the giverny skirt 5 years ago and still kick my ass regularly on that one, as by the time I was ready it was all sold out in my size! Love your new necklace and the scarf! The punk floral has been so popular this year! None of the clothes were for me and I passed on the scarf only because I have way tooo many scarves!!! I am interested to hear that Sydney doesn't get fog! We certainly do in the summer when the river is cool and the air is warm! It is a beautiful picture!

    1. I hope the skirt is not a disappointment.... Non buyers remorse is a terrible thing. I still have it over a couple of things over the years.
Will be getting the scarf and necklace at the weekend, so will model them for the blog next week, if things ever calm down around here.
The fog has lifted.... It was fun while it lasted!

  3. This is part confession and part maths isn't it! I was reading and doing the maths all at the same time :p. Make sure you give us modelling pics and all will be forgiven!

    1. I will certainly model them! This blog is my confessional... Lucky, as I'm not religious, so have no outlet for my retail guilt!!!

  4. Only 2 days early? Oh you made it I would say, we'll give it to you! Laughing here, but you know it might make you feel better to know that I ordered some Goldsign, some shirts and other basic stuff from JCrew with the recent Canadian promo. I haven't ordered since January and I said never again but that clearly wasn't sustainable.
I'm glad you ordered that skirt, you love it so much and I agree it is really beautiful and different.

    1. Thank you Dani! I feel as if I've received absolution!! I did almost make it!
Interested in hearing more about your purchases: gold sign jeans?
I'm really hoping the skirt lives up to my expectations... The back seam in the stick pics looks worryingly un-matched, which could be a problem.
      Time will tell...

  5. Fact: a necklace is never pure indulgence but a necessity for a healthy state of mind. A scarf can keep you warm and is therefore practical. The skirt is fabulous and demands to be bought - who are you to argue?
And yes, Today I have sinned. (But only a little. It is a vest with a velvet trim and it was in the Jigsaw sale, surely a mitigating circumstance?))

    1. Hahaha! Like your outlook very much!
Your Jigsaw vest sounds lovely - I'm imagining navy or some other jewel colour?
      Thanks for visiting and commenting!

  6. we will need to see photos of the above items in their appropriate place (ie being worn) in order to decide whether the sin was worth committing. Given your previous photos, I would be confident that they were :D
I have put my purchasing sins on my blog. It is sort of like my confession box.

    1. Cilla, the items will be paraded for the blog once they arrive and I totally agree. Blogs are the modern confessional. We shop, we feel guilt, we confess and receive absolution and forgiveness. Not sure what the blogging equivalent of saying your 'Hail Marys' is.. Will have to ponder.

  7. "Have I sinned recently?" Are you kidding me!! I go exactly through the same process, trying to justify my expenditure, when really there is no justification when you look at my wardrobe!

Looking forward to seeing them on - that's when you can really forgive yourself isn't it!?

    1. You can confess all here, Colleen!!
I always think it could be far, far worse. I could have far worse vices with much deeper repercussions on my life.
I've been eyeing up satchels recently...!!

  8. Yay Ruth for adding anonymous option. I love your blog and I have sinned with linen tees this summer- I live in the U.S. I feel justified because we are having a heat wave at the moment and I am cool as a cucumber. I can't believe I never bought linen tees before this- I had no clue of their existence. Loved your optic dot tee and that helped to open my eyes and wallet to linen tees. Thank you and looking forward to pics of scarf and necklace. All the best- CC.

    1. Hi CC and thanks for commenting! I'm fairly new to linen tees too - lucky you to be having a heatwave!
Will certainly post pics of scarf and necklace when I get them. I think the skirt might be a bit of a wait... I'm hoping it will ship sooner than 12th July, but who knows?

  9. Ruth, don't feel bad I lost my JC card (actually left it at the store and they called me the day after I cancelled my card). But I digress, so I said I would not buy anything from J Crew until my new card arrived even though they can look up the number in the store. Just trying some restraint :). Well on the J Crew website a pop back appeared that I had been looking for so I called and ordered it. So now I am off the wagon I am planning a store visit over the weekend. Enjoy the skirt, necklace and scarf.

    1. Haha!! I had thought of freezing my card in a glass of water, but that's no use at all, as the site saves details and I can remember my security code!
What did you score on popback?

    2. Nothing major. It has been so cold here for almost June and I have wanted the Stripe cotton-silk popover in Neon Clover and could never find it in a 4.

    3. Hope your weather improves and glad you scored the popover. It's so exciting when things pop back! Like some kind of hunt!

  10. Oh, wow. What gorgeous pieces! With items as stunning as those, they could hardly be considered ''sins''! ;)
