Good news and new running shoes!

Today I had my 3 month post-surgery check up with the orthopaedic surgeon. Apart from having to wait for hours to see him it was a great appointment!
He was amazed at my recovery and said he had never seen anyone recover as quickly and completely in his whole career! Yay! The ankle is doing very well, and the newly constructed foot too!

I'm able to go back to my regular yoga practice and pretty much resume my 'normal' activities. The only things I'm not allowed to do is run or jump until August. I can live with that!
Also, no long sandy beach walks. Boo!
Still. I've come this far and I'm very, very patient.

Another plus is that I'm allowed to wear heels again if I want, but he advised me to ease back slowly. Seeing as I rarely wear proper heels anyway, this won't be an issue. He did recommend wearing running shoes for long walks, and, as I walk around 7-8km on an average day, I decided to celebrate by buying myself some new and very bright Nike Gykasous. Here they are in all their glory!
They will make a change from the daggy white ones!

On my way home I stopped off at the DVF shop to see what delights they had in store. This caught my eye. It's a silk tunic-y thing with pearl studs all over it. Very bling and luxe. Silk crepe lined in silk. The price was way out of my league ($1075), but I did enjoy trying it on. If I ever find a money tree it shall be mine....

I also had a play with the bags in the Coach store. This one is very practical and turns into a clutch too.
As I was carrying my old Mulberry Bayswater, which weighs about 7000kg, I was seduced by its lightness and simplicity. Yes, it came home with me too....

All-in-all a good day. This evening I'm going to celebrate with lots of wine and friends!

Happy Friday and weekend

  1. Lovely bag Ruth, and that tunic thing at DVF is gorgeous, but expensive!! Yay for the ankle on the mend. You've obviously done all the right things with the recovery process... but I'm surprised there were no more shoe purchases to celebrate?! Have a great weekend xx

  2. Thank you Heidi! I was a bit shocked that I bought a bag, as I'm not really a 'bag' person. Think I've bought 2 in the last decade.... Now 3! The real deal-clincher was that I can use it as a going out clutch and it has enough room for my reading glasses! My old evening clutch is too small for my glasses, and as I can't read or see anything close anymore without them, it was annoying.
No shoes. I really don't need any, and have the Fendi ones I bought while under house arrest that have yet to be worn. There are also some Veronique Branquinho pumps that need and outing soon - they've only been worn once since I bought the last year, as I buggered my ankle soon after buying them.
Hope you're having a Good Friday! Xx

  4. Wow - you being fit and doing regular yoga must have much to do with the healing! That is fab news. Nothing is worse than a niggling issue post injury.

I like those Nikes - I might get the gray ones - but are they properly comfy?

I like any item that does double duty. That DVF is lovely but whoa - I think that price is padded with a bit of GST and import tax. You should come and buy it here when it's on sale! I nearly got the bayswater as I like the simplicity but I did find it heavy so didn't get it in the end. Have a lovely weekend!

    1. I think the yoga must be one of the factors.... I'm dead chuffed, anyway!
The Nikes are super comfy - very supportive and light.
I'm sure you're right about the DVF prices, although I did a quick search and the cheapest I found it was on Shopbop for $895. Matches have it for £630.
Still too much for me.... Will wait for sales!!
Hope you have a great weekend too!

  5. I am so happy for you that you can walk with "normal"shoes again.

Love the new purse and the DvF tunic.

    1. No J Crew clutch for me. The invitation clutch is too shallow - I won't be able to fit my glasses in it. So, much as I love it, there's no point in me getting it. This Coach one is quite deep, so perhaps a bit less elegant, but highly practical!
Too much spending for me too!

    2. Hi Ruth, I completely understand if you don't want to and I had to write here as I can't find your email contact here otherwise I would have emailed you but I am choosing several bloggers to pass on the Liebster award to and I was wondering if you might choose to receive it? I understand if not bc you are so busy but it is answering 10 questions and I link to your blog and then you choose some to pass on to. But like I said no offence taken bc you have so much on. Please do let me know either way :)

    3. Ooh how exciting!! I would love to receive it!
Like you, I've never won anything before, so I'm thrilled that you asked!
Just rushing off to work, so please let me know what I need to do and I'll get onto it tonight!

  6. Congrats on the speedy recovery! Love the fun colour of the Nikes. DvF dresses are gorgeous but wow, the price! The Coach bag is also really nice. I am also with you on the lightweight bag. I had a Prada hobo bag that I used for several years, but I got tired of always getting broken capillaries on my shoulder if I put too much in it. I switched to a canvas tote bag from an obscure Japanese brand a few months ago and I love it.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Thanks Louise! That DVF is extortionate! I think it's because of all the pearl buttons - it did feel very expensive!!
Heavy bags are such a pain. The Bayswater is very heavy, but I do love its classic looks. My everyday bag is a lighter Mulberry saddle bag, but it's still quite heavy!
Hope you have a great weekend and mOthers day!

  9. Congratulations on the speedy recovery - sounds like retail celebrating was a mad success!

I once sat next to Diane herself at the theatre. I was thrilled, because I really admire her, but how do you tell someone "I love the way you keep reinventing yourself.." Many people might not take that as a compliment. And then there'd be the whole rest of the show to sit through. So I just sat there.

    1. Thank you, Fred.
How exciting to site next to Diane! I think I would have been totally star-struck! Was she wearing a lovely dress?
