J Crew CFDA collections - I'm gobsmacked......

....... By the prices.

J Crew's CFDA/Vogue collection has just been added to the website.
Here are some of the offerings:

I can just see this beach blanket getting lots of use - such great price that I may even get one for each of the family!! It's always practical to take a cashmere blanket to the beach. Great for wiping greasy fish & chip hands and for soaking up sunblock and ice cream spillage!!

The Cashmere knits are priced reasonably too. I can totally imagine paying almost $400 for a tank.

Sarcasm aside, I really think they're taking the piss with these prices.

Is anything catching your eye from this collection?

    1. Utter lunacy! I wonder how they come up with the prices?
I have a divine cashmere blanket/throw from Brora that cost a fraction of that price!
I have never thought to take it to the beach, or indeed anywhere near the ground!

  2. A $2000 beach towel? Now I've seen everything. Can't say that cashmere really screams Beach to me either!! x

    1. It does! Think how many lovely scarves one cold buy instead.... Actually, probably only 3 or 4, but still.... Know what I'd prefer!

  4. I've never heard of these designers, and while some of the stuff looks nice enough and I'm sure the quality is good, it's not exciting enough to catch my eye. I'd never pay anywhere close to the prices. I don't even wish I could afford it, it's all kind of just okay looking.

    1. Cate, I think Tabitha Simmons is the most established of them... But I'm not sure.
I think the shoes are not too crazy in price, but my flabber was gasted at these items' prices!

  5. I am with Cate - this is where J Crew is getting more and more away from their roots...

    1. Yup. Anthro is a bit too whimsical for me, but far more interesting than this stuff

    1. It does make it easy to not spend when things are so monumentally overpriced....

  9. I have actually been wondering what their business strategy is for a while, too much time sitting on trains and planes I guess. I wondered if in a global push they won't slowly become a higher priced brand. A bigger presence but with a feeling of being elusive and exclusive. Somewhere in the same league as say Max Mara or Ralph Lauren's medium/high price point labels. There is a lot of room at the bottom of the higher end market/demographic. If it works well it can work very well. In my previous life when I had a proper job I saw the unrufflable feathers of LV get a little ruffled by none other than Coach. Sorry about the double post safari and my ipad are a little temperamental on blogger.

    1. I really hope they don't follow this model as I don't think they're really up there in terms of quality.
J Crew doesn't even come close to Max Mara in terms of quality!

  10. ha ha this is funny! Those prices do seem a little extortionate for what they are, but I guess someone is buying their pieces if they are still selling them at that price, but who!!!

Thanks for visiting my blog Ruth - take care

    1. I would love to know whose budget and lifestyle can accommodate a $2k beach blanket. Imagine the hassle of cleaning the bloody thing!

  11. Oh my god!!! How can they justify such prices and is it mentioned where those items are manufactured??? Seriously...
