A long weekend

This weekend was long, thanks to the Queen's birthday. I'm no monarchist, but it's at times like this that I appreciate the Royal family.
The weekend has been pretty relaxing. Lots of time hanging around with friends and family. No birthdays either!
Saturday outfit for shopping and general loafing:

Skin & Threads cashmere sweater (quality is WAY superior to J Crew - no pilling!!), J Crew Compilation necklace, Isabel Marant cords, old red pumps.

Saturday night was a bring-a-dish curry night at a friend's. There were 9 of us, with 6 different curries, twndoori fish and chicken, sambal, raita, chapatis and pickles. It was fabulous!

I wore my new skirt, with black Margiela sweater (worked out it's 11 years old - now that's good quality!), leather jacket, new necklace and black Véronique Branquinho pumps.

Yes I did wear the scarf too. Pattern overload!

Here's my plate with a selection of curries.

And a possum eating tandoori sauce outside! Hope the poor thing was ok and didn't suffer a bad gut from all the spices!

How was your weekend? Spicey?

  1. Yes but where are your jeans from? Mind you I don't know why I am asking bc I won't fit into them...But I like the zip detail. Love dark red pumps to jazz up an outift. Loving that skirt and you look so happy and lovely wearing it :)
PS I am no monarchist either but when we got a day off for the royal wedding I was all trying to find Hazza a girl to marry!

    1. Ah, the jeans.... Got them from the Isabel Marant shop on Rue Jacob last year. As if often the way with my shopping, I went to try them on 4 times and ended up buying them on my final day in Paris. They are supposed to be very cropped, but aren't so much on me. They're fine grey cord and I do love them a lot.
Lets hope Hazza marries soon so you get another wedding day off!

    1. Mmmmmmm asparagus! Would love to hear more about that festival. Is your partner back yet?
I think you'd love Isabel Marant jeans - they are a bit rock chick - have zips at the ankle too.

    2. Ruth i am still by myself and will be for another week:(
I already feel like a single mom.

The region where i live is qa famous asparagus region and since its only available for about 8 weeks,it is celebrated with lots of food, wine and music.Very yummy!

I think i would love the isabel marant jeans, they are so casually chic. All of her stuff is:)

  3. You're so glam around the house Ruth! Love your going out outfit too, an 11 year old sweater is good quality indeed... and you mustn't have moths lurking around your place. Love the idea of a curry night. I will definitely try that once we have a house we can entertain in. With any luck the tandoori knocked the possum off. I'm not a fan of possums (destroyers of my camellias). xx

    1. Hi Heidi, if I was blabbing around the house I certainly wouldn't have been wearing the shoes or the necklace - I'd been loafing around the city and running errands. At home I wear daggy sweats and glam slippers!
Sadly, we do have moths. They've ruined a stack of sweaters in our linen press. Happily, the black sweaters were in a different area. New cedar balls have been procured and I have declared death to evil moths.
Possums are a pain, but rather cute!

  4. I think you look especially pretty in the first picture, Ruth - grey is really a flattering colour for you! I love that you mixed both prints - more is more!

Our meals were rather dull this weekend for some reason. We were doing renos and errands and there was a lot of studying going on as exam week starts for our son. The curry party sounds like a great idea!

    1. Wow, thanks Wendy! What a lovely compliment!
Hope the exams go well and with as little stress as possible.
Will there be celebrations next weekend post exams?

    1. Thanks Tabitha! It's a comfy outfit, but for real house loafing I wouldn't be nearly so put together!

  6. I love the cords with the pumps - cords don't suit my leg shape at all unfortunately!

Don't you worry about pattern overload, it adds interest to an outfit!

hhhmm curry, I would have had to send my apologies for the curry night event. I can't do curries - the possum has put me to shame!

    1. No curries? Not of any nature at all? and you live in Birmingham!!!
Cords are tricky... I think they work because they're cropped, and very fine. I've tried on wider ones and they make me look like a frump!

  7. Love a statement necklace with a well- shaped blank canvas and some smart shoes.
Love a spot of pattern mixing.
Love me a bit of curry.
Now, where is the vino? The dessert?
Glad u had a good weekend!

    1. Thanks Cilla. Vino was abundant; in fact I felt very dusty for most of yesterday due to its abundance. Dessert was Kulfi with passion fruit on top.... V delicious indeed,
Hope you had a good one too and that the PhD isn't killing you!

    2. I did.
PhD not killing me. Just maiming (haaaaa)
No, I am trying to be more organised. Which is a good skill to have.
      Now, for being on time.......

    3. Oh no... Maiming not good. You're in medicine, aren't you?
Good luck with organisation and timekeeping,!

  8. The possum is hilarious and I am certain he did not react well to the curry! I absolutely love your outfit with the red butterfly skirt, looks great!!

    1. Possums are pretty funny things. Our cats don't like possums at all. They get very cross when there are possums on their territory!
      Thanks for your kind words!

  9. Hi Ruth, you look stunning in all this pics, I can only hope to look so chic! Your cashmere sweater and Isabel Marant pants are amazing. The curry dinner sounds yummy. Our local Indian takeout joint closed down last year and we have yet to find a replacement, so it's been ages since we have had deccent Indian food.

    1. Hi Louise, from what I've seen you always look very chic - effortlessly chic I would say!
Too bad your local Indian place has closed.... If you'd ever like any recipes let me know. I shared a house when I was a student with an Indian woman who thought me some yummy dishes.

  10. Smashing outfits! I love both of them, but this skirt, oh this skirt is really fantastic and you wear is beautifully. Weekend was really warm here on Saturday and we are back to more cooler temperatures with rain since Sunday...

  11. Now that's the way to wear a slouchy sweater, wish I could carry that off. Love your skirt and leather jacket outfit too. But I'm most envious of the curry gathering!

I don't remember my weekend, seems the past month has been a blur of different airports and getting lost in rental cars. I feel for possums, many think they are horrible creatures but when I learned they eat cockroaches and rats, I'm all for them.

    1. The curry gathering was great! We regularly do bring-a-dish nights and vary the theme for each one. Last time it was Turkish, the time before SE Asian.... It's a great way to have a good cheap night with friends.
      Possums are kinda cute!

  12. Love both outfits! Well I wanted to update you on my monarch butterfly skirt. Never shipped!! I called for a week and they kept telling me oh it's coming and then the dreaded email that it was canceled. JC is searching for one for me now so hopefully I will still get to try it. You look divine in yours and I hope you continue to have fun wearing it. Thank you so much for your reviews and for sharing your fun weekend.

    1. Oh what a shame, MB! Have you had any news? Have they managed to track one down for you? I'm sure you'll find one as there are often popbacks!
Thanks for visiting and fingers crossed for the skirt!

    2. Good news they found one and it shipped!!! I am hoping to get it on Monday. I will definitely update you on fit once I get it. I am so hoping it fits because as you have shown so beautifully this skirt can be worn for all seasons!! Have a great weekend.
