A very red week

As you can see it's been a very red/black week so far:

J Crew skirt, black Country Road sweater, black Prada coat, pink scarf and black Daniele Arancani boots.

Red J Crew Minnie pants, Navy J Crew sweater, Black Lover coat, Jenny Kee scarf and black Acne boots that are nearly dead. Wish the Minnie pants were a touch longer....

Black Margiela sweater, Red butterfly J Crew skirt, Black Lover jacket, blue scarf and Daniele Arancani boots.

Phew. A lot of red and black. Must try to branch out a bit over the weekend.

Talking of which, this weekend is a long weekend here to celebrate the Queen's birthday. I'm absolutely not a Monarchist. In fact, I'd vote for a Republic here, but I am Very Happy to have a 3 day weekend.
We're going to a friend's dinner party, and having people over for a big lunch on Monday. Apart from that I'm going to try to do very little.

How about you? Are you stuck on colour repeat or varying your hues?
Any exciting weekend plans?

  1. LOVE the red and black on you Ruth! It is so pretty! I wish that skirt had worked on me, but alas, it did not! We will have a quiet weekend I think, it is the weekend before exams start for son, so am desperate for him to study and will feed him well and do all I can to create a nice calm atmosphere!

    1. Oh exams! It's exam time here too - next week will be into the horrors of marking for J... I really don't miss marking at all. Good luck to your son.

I didn't know you'd got the skirt? Was it not good on?

  2. Love all your red - great outfits Ruth! Esp. love the butterflies and leather jacket combo - did you get any compliments? It photographs so well. I've been a symphony of black wool this week, so exciting! Enjoy the long weekend - we're off to Melbourne without kids (!!) for a friend's 40th. Hooray! xx

    1. Thanks Heidi! I did get a couple of compliments. My boss did a double take, too.

How exciting that you're having a child-free weekend! And in Melbourne! Hope you'll be doing lots of hedonistic activities - it's such a great city for eating and boozing!!!

    1. Shame he's away! An asparagus festival sounds very intriguing - what happens? Are there lots of food stalks? Is it asparagus season? (I'm guessing yes!)
      I LOVE asparagus so much.
      You must take some pics,

    1. Lululemon features regularly on my lower half too, but I don't usually take pics of my yoga outfits! Perhaps I'll start, although they're not that thrilling! Hope you're having a good weekend too x

  6. I enjoy seeing you wear the purchases right away (I thought this too when you wore the punk floral scarf). I used to buy and then take forever to wear the clothes in real life. I was always saving them for some stupid reason like, the piece was too good and new to actually wear for real. How crazy is that? Now if I am not chomping at the bit to wear the item then I do not buy it. Done deal. Anyway I am glad you are a "utilizer". All the best, CC.

    1. Hey CC! I almost always wear new stuff immediately, unless it's the wrong season. I bought a lot of winter stuff during our summer here (Nov - Feb) which didn't get worn until recently, but if the item is weather appropriate, I try to wear it as soon as poss.
I know that if something doesn't get worn quickly it's probably because it was a mistake to buy it!
I am a great believer in Not saving things for 'best'. I rarely have a special occasion or event these days, so stuff gets worn for every day activities!

  7. Hi Ruth, the red and black combination is smashing, no wonder you are drawn to it. I especially like the monarch skirt with the leather jacket, very cool. Hope you have a great weekend!

  8. Ruth! I am totally copying your look with the pixilated houndstooth skirt for fall. I don't have the fab Prada coat but I do have a black one with brushed silver buttons and black suede boots. I agree with CC I love how you wear things right away. I bought this skirt and never got around to wearing it and it feels a bit heavy now for summer. . That butterfly skirt is gorgeous and is on my sale watch list for sure!

    1. Celle, I'm so flattered that you like the outfit! Copy away!
The pixilated skirt is a little heavy for very warm days - but I think it could work with a simple singlet or cami and flat sandals.
