Winter-ifying summer clothes

I've been on a clothes-buying hiatus recently. I have all the things I need for the rest if winter, and nothing at J Crew has tempted me for a while now. I usually start buying items for Spring/Summer at the end of July, but this year I'm not sure that there is much of interest around. I did just do a tiny shop on Matches - more on that in another post.

Anyway, it's been quite mild in Sydney, so I've been wearing some of my summer stuff with layers to brighten and lighten my mood.

This J Crew tweed is cotton, but works well with Wolford opaques and boots. I'm wearing it with a Country Road knit, Lover leather jacket and JC scarf that I wear Far Too Often!

This is a sleeveless summer dress made of pointe fabric with a J Crew cashmere sweater on the top, same leather jacket and scarf and old Dries van Noten boots.

I promise that I don't wear that scarf every day. I'm wearing the red monarch one today.
And ugly Uggs on my feet. Don't worry, I would NEVER wear them outside of my house!

Hope you are having a great weekend!

  2. Oh I will wear my uggs out - does that make me a complete fashion washout? Love you in your butterflies!

    1. Hi Wendy, in Aus, uggs are strictly for inside only! I'm happy to turn a blind eye to the image of others wearing them out, but if I see someone here, I cringe!!

  3. I can see why you might reach for the scarf often. It really brightens your face. You look lovely. I guess I'm used to Uggs everywhere. No judgement here if you wear them out and about.

    1. Thanks BB! As I mentioned to Wendy, uggs have a bit of a bad rep here in Aus, so wearing them outside is a total no-no!! The connotations are too terrible to contemplate ;-)
However, no judgment from me if you're in another country!

  4. snap. I'm wearing my uggs tonight too, and as you say, strictly for at home!! Interested to see what you've bought from Matches. I had my eye on a Mulberry bag, but it sold out while I was still thinking about it (probably a good thing). Love your very successful winterifying of summer clothes, and I think that Green scarf has paid for itself - it looks fab on you! xx

    1. Thanks so much, Heidi!
I'm a recent ugg convert. I've worn Austrian felt slippers for years, but my feet freeze in our un-heated and un-insulated old house. So, this year, I took the plunge!
J despises them, but will just have to cope!
I would Never wear them outside!
Sorry to hear you missed the Mulberry bag. I missed one of the items I wanted, but ordered a DVF skirt.
Will post my thought seen it arrives. I love DVF, and it's so much cheaper on Matches!

  5. I have been watching for that clover tweed skirt since i saw it on a blogger with the mint green pop art dot linen tee. I love it with the scarf and leather jacket so I need to stalk it for sure. . Very chic! Thanks as always for the outfit inspiration.

    1. Thanks Shopping Celle! It's a lovely colour! Since my ankle surgery I've lost a bit of weight off my bum so it's a bit poor than it was, which is probably a good thing!
Hope you manage to track one down!

  6. I love how you've worked some summer pieces for winter - that green tweed skirt is amazing! We've been pretty lucky with the winter weather so far haven't we? Although it has been wet, freezing and miserable all weekend in Melbourne. I'm so looking forward to summer that I bought new sandals and sunglasses today in preparation!!

    1. It's a good skirt - wish JC would make more summer tweed skirts!
Weather in Sydney has been freezing, although much milder this week, thank god!
It's a good time of year to be buying summer items!

  7. Love your first outfit with the tweed skirt and green scarf - beautiful colors! I grabbed J.Crew navy/white cotton tweed skirt just recently with the same idea of wearing it in the fall and winter with tights and boots.

  9. ruth I really like to treat a simple black sheath dress as a skirt or jumper too. And, when dropping in, I just consider those JC scarves your signature look/ pieces ;-)

    1. Black sheaths do lend themselves to a bit of layering! I think the scarves have indeed become part of my uniform!

  10. Oh I love the print of that scarf but cannot wear bright greens around my face. Looks great on you! Is it good to be able to buy sale things and wear right away, since you're opposite seasons from us? Love your outfits ... but what's wrong with Uggs, I wear them out all the time. ;)

    1. Hi Tiffany Rose, it's great to buy sale stuff to wear now! It almost makes up for the exorbitant cost of living here!! (Not to mention J Crew's huge mark-ups for its international customers!)
