Quick review of J Crew drapey sailor tee

Yesterday, the J Crew tee arrived:

I got this on sale recently. It's the drapey sailor tee in size xs. I think I could probably have gone with an xxs, but I rather like the slouchy fit.

The fabric is 77% viscose, 15% linen and 8% wool. I was a bit concerned about this mix, but it's actually a very nice fabric, with enough weight to not feel too flimsy. I'm not certain it will be suitable for our summer because of the wool, but it's a great item to wear now and into Spring.

The stripes match up at the seams. It's fairly long when un-tucked (above), and looks fine tucked, too:

Overall, I'm very pleased with it. Not bad for $38 including postage!

If anyone has any reviews of the new sleeveless keyhole top, I'd be VERY keen to hear.

  3. Looks nice but I have to say I am a bit confused about the addition of wool bc cotton would have been better?

    1. I agree - no idea why wool was added. I guess because it gives it a bit more weight?
Anyway, it doesn't feel 'wooly', so no real issue!

  5. Love the fit Ruth. I like sailor tees to be a bit slouchy, too. Was wearing something similar earlier (from Pull and Bear) and this French lady complimented me while we were in the toilet--of all places, and she had to be French :D I'm a bit confused too why wool was added? I was thinking more viscose and/or cotton perhaps?

  6. It looks really nice on you - the JCrew tops are cut really nicely. Maybe the fabric mix means it will last a little longer than my vintage sailor top that was cotton and went to holes (and which I still love and try to sneak out of its gardening category of clothing from time to time). xx

    1. Ta Heidi. I prefer it to my old APC, strangely enough! I think it's a bit more flattering due to the weight of the fabric.

  11. Hey Ruth

Looking at it, I would not have expected you to say it had wool in the mix, but the fact that it does would make this a really versatile top for me because our summers tend to be short term and our winters can be bitter, so I guess it could be worn throughout the year. I love stripes, although not everyone can get away with horizontal stripes, but when you are ordering XS, I don't think you need to worry about that ha. have a great week!

  12. I absolutely loved this shirt (had it in faded barn) but after washing it per the instructions it still shrunk and the side seams twisted toward the front/back. I purchased it from the site and got in touch via chat. No questions asked, J. Crew credited me. But I'm so disappointed. It's impossible to find the perfect red-and-white sailor shirt.
