Summer colours and shopping

The past two weeks have been so busy it's a miracle I haven't collapsed in a heap of confusion and exhaustion.
I can't remember exactly what's been going on, but there have been a lot of end of year parties, school events and the like.
M, (eldest daughter) is off to High School next year, so this end of term is particularly busy and poignant for her.
This week is looking a little calmer, so I hope to have a bit more time to think, read and gather my thoughts.
I also need to start my Christmas shopping.... and source a tree at some point.
Speaking of shopping, I'm pleased to announce that I bought no clothes/shoes/accessories in November, and seem to holding strong so far in December.
Apart from a top at J Crew and some Marni shoes, I can honestly say that there is nothing tempting me.

In lieu of anything more meaningful, here are a sample of outfits from last week. Yellow and blue featured heavily, as well as some red and pink.
From L to R:
Black dress from Denmark, red J Crew belt, L'Autre Chose sandals. Yellow Karen Walker skirt, blue J Crew cardigan and mid-life crisis shoes. J Crew skirt, tee and cardigan, L'Autre Chosde sandals. DVF skirt, Wolford top, Cos cardigan and Senso sandals.

How are you?
Have you shopped? Do you do a Christmas tree?
Are you feeling like a hamster on a wheel in danger of falling off, or are you more organised than me?

  1. I love all the colour in your outfits - you look fantastic!! Right now, everyone in Toronto is dressed in black, black and more black - it happens every winter. Hope things get calmer soon. I'm also running around like a madman, still haven't done much in the way of Christmas shopping.

    1. Thanks Louise! I used to be one of those people who only wore black (and grey and other dark shades), but I'm a colour convert now! It's easy to wear colour here, as the light is so bright that colours look 'right'
HOpe you manage to get all your stuff done - it's madness, isn't it? I'm avoiding shops like the plague, but will need to go in one at some point

  2. I love your looks! I am pretty much done shopping, but no wrapping. I am actually contemplating a no shopping mantra in January and February and perhaps longer.... would do me good....

    1. Thanks Wendy! congrats on the shopping - I am very jealous and dreading the inevitable horrors that will occur when I brave the crowds... if only I could do it all online!
I'm finding the shopping hiatus enjoyable!

    1. You'll be in sandals again soon, won't you? or do you live in a long winter area?

  4. I love your outfits! Yes to colour! I'm wearing all black just now, well today at least, to echo Louise it is that time of year here in Canada, bring out the black. I do have my tweed coats to break it up when I step outside thank goodness.
I'm finished my Christmas shopping and everything is wrapped. I gave myself a 10 day window to get it all done, that's to curb my shopping. In past years I would start in early November and just keep buying presents until Christmas, it was ridiculous.
However I have almost no decorations up and the place is looking a little gloomy. I need some help from MrBP, hopefully he'll take time away from the office on Saturday and we can get a tree and some greenery on the go. Good crikes it will be here before we know it!

    1. Black would be the appropriate colour for your wintery weather, although your Elmer Fudd is anything but dark!
Very jealous that you are so organised - I am usually much better organised, but somehow this year it has gone completely wrong. Work is so stupidly busy that I am on the verge of disappearing up my own posterior!

  5. I have bought literally nothing for Christmas so far (gulp). I am usually completely done by this point in the year, but this year has been crazy and I just haven't found the time/figured out the shops/online options not so great here. Congrats on a no shopping November! I didn't go without shopping entirely, but the shopping is definitely coming down! Love all of the outfits above and like all the photos with your hair down -- it looks great.

    1. It's so stressful trying to get stuff done at this time of year, especially in a country that isn't so familiar!
Well done on not shopping much - I think I'm about to fall off the wagon, it being the end of the year and all!

  6. I really like outfits 1 and 3.

I have a fibreoptic Xmas tree, so I am practically done decorating. :)

    1. Thanks Rose! A fibreoptic tree is pure genius! We have a teeny tiny one that sits in the children's bedroom at this time of year, but a big one would be such a time-saver. We have a fake one in the attic, but I stupidly promised a real tree this year, and am now kicking myself!

  7. Your outfits are fabulous. My eyes gravitate to the gorgeous blue sweater and skirt. Oh how I wish it were summer.

My shopping was finished a while ago so I took advantage of some promotions to pick up a few things for myself. I haven't bought much for my wardrobe the past few months so it felt rather nice. We have a real tree here in the city and will decorate a few outdoor trees in the country, were just waiting for the nasty weather to break and it appears a warmer spell is on the horizon - hooray!

    1. Thanks xoxo! I hope your weather improves soon. I'm guessing that you are at that stage when there's not much point in buying too many clothes!
V jealous that your shopping is finished. I made quite a few online purchases last night, so fingers crossed they make it here before 25th!

  8. Love the pleated skirt Ruth, and the pop of colour :) I'm hanging on for dear life. Extremely busy. Been meaning to leave a comment here but couldn't. Found the time just now. Xmas tree was up on 1 Dec. Gifts not yet done. Still have fundraising Zumbathon to attend, parties and leaving dos for the boss. I really wish it's Christmas already to get over the holidays--which I feel bad about, but it's my only break apart from the mini holidays. Anyway I don't wanna bore you. I just made you an agony aunt! Haha. Have a lovely weekend x

    1. Sorry to hear you're so busy -it's really hard at this time of year. I feel like a headless chicken at the end of the day.... just so wound-up from running around!
I'm hoping that everything will calm down next week, as work closes up for the summer on Tuesday - hurrah!!
The fundraising Zumbathon sounds great - hope it goes well! I'm presuming it involves zumba!!?

  9. Congratulations on not shopping for clothes/shoes! I don't buy a lot anymore, but I buy regularly... Xmas tree is up, but we do it usually around December 6th as we celebrate St Nicolas. Xmas shopping is nearly done, but I buy nearly everything online... And last Monday was the big day of Xmas baking... On of the best day in the year :-) December is a busy month...

    1. Thanks Steph, I've actually found the not shopping easier than I thought. I simply don't open emails from retailers and stay away from all shops, both online and b&m.
December is a very busy month: I hope yours calms down soon!

  10. I feel like a hamster who has fallen off the wheel. Christmas is almost upon us and I am still recovering from Thanksgiving. My only "save" would be taking two weeks off from work that'sa plan in my mind.

    Cute colors, cute outfits!

    1. Oh poor you! I haven't quite fallen off, but I feel the wheel is slowing down a bit...
Hope things calm down soon and that you get your 2 weeks off

  11. I'm with tiffany rose! Definitely behind on a few things this holiday season, including my own outfit photos on my blog. Our tree is up though, and almost done with holiday shopping. :)

I like all of your outfits! I kick myself for not picking up that graphic houndstooth skirt whenever I see it on another blogger. I love it on you with the pink/red sweater!
