New clothes!

It being my birthday and all, I did a tiny bit of self-gifting.
Exhibit A:

Leopard print skirt by Baum & Pferdgarten, who are a Danish company. It's a bit mid-life crisis, but I love it anyway. I'm wearing it here with a J Crew cardigan (just for a change).

Next up, new jeans and Boden skirt

On my winter wardrobe wishlist was a new pair of jeans. I wanted them to be not too skinny, but not too baggy or flared. I found my perfect pair in a shop in Sydney, but they only had a very faded and destroyed wash available. After a quick sleuth on the web, I found the same style but in a darker wash on Matches, so snapped them up.
Very fortuitously, Matches had sent me an $80 voucher for my birthday (so kind!), so they ended up being not too $$. They're Rag & Bone Dre boyfriend jeans and I think they're going to be a good addition to my admittedly ample jean collection.
What's your favourite jeans brand? Any experience with Rag & Bone?

The Boden skirt was a bit of an experiment.

I've never ordered from Boden before, but again, had a 20% off voucher, so took the plunge.
The skirt is cotton, with a cotton lining (hurrah!!! Dani would be very happy!) and an A-line shape. I like the print and the fabric, but there is something just a bit mumsy about the cut on me....
What do you think? I'm going to keep it, but am thinking of getting it tailored or taken up just a smidge.

I'd welcome your thoughts on what to do with it.
Mumsy or not?

  1. Love those jeans and the leopard skirt!! Never heard of the Danish brand, but Rag & Bone is very popular in North America. My personal favourite for jeans is J Brand, closely followed by AG. By coincidence, I was also eyeing the same skirt on the Boden website but was wondering about the 'mumsy' aspect. I think the skirt might be better if the length was taken up a bit.

    1. Hi Louise, Baum & Pferdgarten aren't so big in N America, but they're quite well-known in Europe.
I am going to take the skirt to the tailor when I have a moment. It will probably get taken up 3 or 4 cm.
J Brand jeans don't really work on me. I find them too tight in the legs and baggy in the hips... I must have an odd shape as almost every other woman I know loves them!

  2. Same as Louise about the skirt and jeans.

About the Boden skirt... a couple of inches and maybe take a bit off the A-line in too would solve the mumsy aspect.

    1. Yes, you're right about the skirt!

  3. The leopard/cardi outfit I would call a mid-life triumph. You're right about the Boden, it doesn't look cut right for you but the print is nice.

    2. Thanks GSL!
I love the print of the skirt, but the cut is off. It will go to Signor Conte, my tailor, to see what he advises. Too much of a faff to return it.

  4. Agree with Louise - the skirt needs to be shorter! Funnily enough when I was going through the Boden catalogue I thought a lot of it looked very you - there's definitely a touch of J Crew about it.
Love the Danish leopard print skirt- the pink is lovely. I tend to wear J Brand jeans, they just flatter me the best of all the jeans. Funnily enough my favourite cut are jeggings. Which I never thought I'd wear unless they had something long over the top, but they're the most flattering of all my jeans, so I wear them as that!! xx

    1. There are some nice looking things in Boden. I reckon the petite size would work better on me, but that particular skirt only came in regular. Some of the pencil skirts look as if they'd be great, but I think I'll wait to see if the graphic J Crew one goes on sale any time soon, as J Crew seems to fits me better. Even though the Boden measurements sounded fine, the 6 is a bit big in the waist and hips. Grrr.

  5. Well happy belated birthday, again. Still waiting for the leopard onesie on you. Seriously the skirt looks great. I have discovered Paige Hidden Hill jeans...a bit higher rise with thicker waist band so my pooch doesn't flop over, and a bit fuller cut for my thighs, and yes I go with the bootcut but they do come in other cuts and rises, I get on ebay. Not sure what to tell you on the Boden skirt. I am assuming you can not return? If not, definitely take it up above the knee. Between the two skirts, pencils are definitely made for your body.

    1. Thanks ms T! You're right about pencil skirts on me. Boot cut jeans can look amazing on, but they make me look very dumpy, so I stick to straight or skinny!

  6. You're right I am very happy that skirt has a cotton lining! I'm with the others, take it up a couple of inches. Impossible for you to look Mumsy. Can I also say that I adore that leopard print skirt? And nice jeans too. I struggle with denim, I think jeans look terrible on me and I don't feel myself but I'm going to have to start wearing them as my puppy is chewing my clothes.
I always buy things for myself for my birthday. These things must be celebrated!

    1. The cotton lining is great! I really don't understand why more retailers don't use cotton or silk linings. Just so much more pleasant.
Jeans are a nightmare to buy. I think swimwear and jeans must be the hardest things to get right.
I guess if Scout is chewing a lot, cheap and durable clothing is in order....

  10. I thought of you Saturday when I wore my green punk floral scarf to brunch. I need to wear scarves more often but they sometimes get in my way while working. Love the leopard outfit. Boden skirt will be fab too once it is shortened. You did well on your self gifting. Don't give up on Boden because they have some lovely things.

    1. Oh the green punk floral is such a great piece! I'm looking forward to getting mine out if it ever gets cool enough for a scarf!
I will keep my eye on Boden, as I like the construction and fabric and the prices as reasonable.

  11. Is that another leopard print item? ;) Looking good! Agree the skirt is a tad long.

I live a sheltered life and haven't tried too many jeans ... my favorites are Kate Spade and Jean Shop and believe it or not factory over retail J.Crew. It doesn't matter what brand, no midrise for me, they smash my buns into pancakes.

    1. It is indeed another item!
I've never seen Kate Spade jeans - suspect they're not available here.
I have pancake bum too, so no midrise either..... hate that high-waisted flat bum look

  12. You look fab in those jeans - you deserve an Ines Fress...medal for services to jean wearing. Skirt is very groovy and in diff direction, kinda hides your figure but fun. Agree with everyone else above - knee or above. I never wear skirts as its not hot enough here but you would probably get loads of wear out of it where you are

I wear skirts from November 'til April as it's pretty warm here.
The skirt is at the tailor. Will report back once I have time to pick it up.
