Mothers' Day, weekend

A quick post with quite a few pics.
Mothers' day morning. I got some delicious salted caramels and a scented candle.
You can see one of the cat's bum

The best things were the cards, though. I love a home-made card!
M made this. She is pretty good at drawing Manga:

My mother opening her gifts.
It's so good to have her here...

Lunch with everyone. Slow cooked beef with Yorkshire Puddings, Roast potatoes and vegetables.

Finally, a couple of outfits.

J Crew jacket, Acne shining shirt, Nudie jeans and Salvatore Ferragamo shoes.

Very old Scanlan & Theodore dress, ancient Helmut Lang jacket (the 'Government' jacket as the children call it - guess it makes me look like a politician?!), Nike running shoes and Mansur Gavriel bag.

Apparently there's a 2 year waiting list for Mansur Gavriel bags. We certainly do live in strange times...

If you live in Australia I hope you're not as furious as I am with the Budget. Cuts to education, healthcare, the Arts and all the people who need help the most? Way to go, greedy suited liberals. GRRRRR!

  1. Gosh you have great outfits, love those goldy shoes with the purple. And that lunch! Gosh those drawings are just wonderful, with the smiles and big eyes and listing all your wonderful attributes. wonder which letter my kids would choose?

    1. Jodie, your letter from your kids was pretty fantastic too! The gold shoes were from St Vinnies Op Shop, so a real bargain!

    2. Blimin' heck, saving money all the time. Hope you re-allocated those savings to another purchase!

    3. PS, hate the sound of those cuts too! If they want to see what happens when you cut education and health just come to Oakland where the resulting crime is incredible! Does Australia want to go along that path?

    4. Jodie, I think some of the cuts won't make it through the senate, but I really do dread to think what the future will be like if all of them do make it through. People under 30 are going to be so screwed unless they have rich parents or a very well paying job.....

  2. Great family dins pics! M certainly can draw and her card outdoes any mass-produced card/sentiment by a mile. Purple works very well on you and I'm already on record with the updo. Great post!

    1. Thanks GSL! I adore a home-made card. I'm aware that this stage won't go on forever and all too soon they'll have left the nest!
Up-do is a necessity as my hair is so wayward these days, and I am very useless at styling it!

  3. It looks like you had a wonderful day! Thanks for sharing this special time. The handmade cards from my kids are always my favorite.
The purple jacket is great, such a pretty color.

    1. Thanks maryeb. I love purple very much, although I have a friend who hates it, so I try to avoid wearing it when i see her.

  5. I am aaaangry about this budget. Don't even get me started...
When I come up to Syd or you come up to melb, we need to have the discussion over a drink or two, and solve some of the country's issues.

    1. Bloody hell Cilla, I am so, so furious! I can't bring myself to watch any more coverage of it. I feel like reaching into the TV screen and slapping Hockey. not to mention the odious Christopher Pyne.... what a foul man he is.
Abbott should be forced to live on the minimum wage for a year or two under his new regime.

As for the future for people under 30... well, I guess my kids will just have to make sure they only study something that will get them a well-paid job.

I'd love to meet up and solve issues with you ;-)

  6. Hello Ruth,
Oh for Beef and Yorkshire puddings. If only we lived closer, we could have popped round. We would not have been a nuisance......honestly......we would have brought gifts......and copious quantities of red wine.....anything to taste that most delicious looking lunch. Next time, please could you give us two days' notice......chance to get over the jet lag......and we shall be there as fast as you can say jumbo jet.

Your purple jacket looks totally fabulous on you. Great colour and it suits you so well. The Helmut Lang jacket we could steal. So very 'Third Man' we think and, teamed with all black, the colour most represented in our wardrobes, we feel that it would suit the dark side streets of Budapest beautifully.

One thing we have been dying to ask.......where do you take your 'outfit' pictures?

    1. Oh Jane and Lance, you would be most welcome here! I will certainly let you know next time so you can book your flights!
I must warn you though, that our house is rather humble!
How I wish I could beam myself up to Budapest and wear my black outfits! For many years, I only wore black or dark hues, but Sydney's perpetual bright light has changed me into a colour whore!

My outfit pictures are taken in the highly salubrious loo in my office - the only mirror that has half-way decent light for my terrible 'selfies'!

  7. Yummy looking lunch. Loved that drawing that M did - she really does do great eyes, as I said on insta.
I wore my blue version of your purple jacket today, and you've reminded me I need to change the buttons from the shiny faux military ones to something else.... shall put it on the to do list after I've cleared the birthday festivals from the house/ my mind!! Next week......! xx

    1. Heidi, I highly recommend re-buttoning the jacket - you have the navy one, don't you?
Hope you're recovering from the very pink birthday!

  8. What a beautiful and sweet card! Your lunch sound delicious and you look perfect as always! I love the way you dress. It's very similar to my style.
And I can't stand politicians, so there is that. They all seem selfish and greedy.

    1. A, you're so right about politicians! perhaps I'm being overly sentimental about the past, but I’m sure that politicians used to be slightly less corrupt and selfish. They were certainly better orators! Our politicians here are a total embarrassment. They sound like half-wits when they attempt to structure a good argument! I think my daughter has a better grasp of rhetoric than our PM!

  9. Belated Happy Mother's Day Ruth! And to your mum also. I love the 'Meow' bit on the card :) She can really draw! And the 'government' jacket. Hahaha. Children always come up with the funniest names for things. Well, it's local and parliamentary elections here on 22 May. I've cast my postal vote and will mail it later today on my way home. Big on the news and debates is UKIP lobbying to break away from the EU. We'll see how it goes. I prefer not to comment on my opinion on that. Too controversial :) Have a good week !

    1. Hi Marj, the 'meow' bit was pretty funny!
Kids do come up with the funniest names for things. I've been reading about the UKIP stuff on the Guardian - love to hear your thoughts, however controversial!

  10. A belated Happy Mother's Day to you, Ruth! Beautiful card from your daughter, she has talent! It looks like you had a wonderful day. I had an okay day - Mother's Day tends to get me stressed out, not sure why. I cannot believe the waiting list for Mansur Gavriel bags!!

    1. Hi Louise, I read your most recent post on Jane Iredale late last night and didn't comment - sorry! Will certainly rectify that!
Sorry to hear that Mothers' Day stresses you - I think any hyped up event can be like that.
MG bags are great, but i wouldn't say they're that great!

  11. I am so glad I don't know what is going in Oz bc everyone seems upset by it by the looks of facebook too! I just need to say that those manga drawings are sooo good - I used to want to be a manga artist and would practice those eyes for ages - you must tell her that she is very very good!!
