Long weekend

This past weekend Australia had a long weekend due to the Queen's birthday. I'm no Monarchist, but this time of year I appreciate the old girl for having a birthday that we can celebrate.
It is ironic, though, that we don't get a public holiday in the UK.....

Our weekend was spent socialising and eating (what's new?)
On Saturday, we took 6 teenagers to the Aquatic Centre for M's 13th birthday party. I was dreading having to spend 4 hours in a hot, sweaty and noisy environment, but in fact it was almost empty and not too noisy at all.
I managed to read a lot of a book, and the time passed quickly.
M and her friends had a great time.

Outfits from last week. It's been chilly and wet, so trousers are in order:
Grey Country Road sweater, black Acne jeans, Acne boots, red J Crew scarf. Black Country Road sweater, grey Isabel Marant cords, black Acne boots and Andeol scarf. Same sweater, green Zara jeans, Acne boots and Jenny Kee scarf. hmm. there's a bit of a theme going on here...

And a couple of skirt outfits:

APC stripey sweater, new black velvet skirt. Black Country Road dress with J Crew herringbone sweater and green J Crew scarf.

In other news, M can now borrow my jeans:

They're a bit too long, and are a much looser fit on her, but it's great to see her stealing my clothes!

Apart from M's birthday do, we went out for big family Malaysian lunch at Pappa Rich.
I had Rendang and Sambal prawns with Biryani rice. V delicious indeed! I'm on a bit of an obsessive Malaysian food kick at the moment. I had laksa for lunch yesterday and the day before. Something about the combination of chillis, coconut milk and fermented fish paste just hits the mark in winter.
What's your food obsession right now?

M wasting money at an evil games centre - I despise these places!

  1. Great outfits and while I love you in the updo, I really like how you wear it down in the middle with the trousers. M is really growing up fast.
Fermented fish paste sounds about as appetizing as axle grease.

    1. Hi GSL! M is still very petite, but it's great to see her trying to steal my clothes!
Terasi (fermented shrimp paste) sounds vile, but is actually delicious when used in the correct combination with tamarind, fish sauce and other stuff. Honest!

    1. Thanks Lisa! Scarves cover a multitude of sins: collapsing neck, stains on blouses etc!

  3. Well don't you look all wintry fall. Em always wished we were the same shoe size...so glad we are not. I agree with GSL, so used to the updo...love the waves.

    1. Thanks T! I'm guessing that M will be borrowing my shoes very soon, but pretty sure she'll overtake me before long!
My hair is naturally very wavy, so it tends towards the rather wayward! I'm getting it trimmed on Saturday.

    1. Yes, shoes v soon I think, although she's not at all interested in heels, but is already eyeing up my old Patrick Cox lace up granny boots from the early 90's!

  5. Love your outfits Ruth! That scarf looks fab with all of them. Happy Birthday to M.. although not sure you will be celebrating her stealing your clothes in the future! I'm actually quite thankful that my E is going to be much taller and a totally different shape to me. With bigger feet.

  6. Oh my gosh you are so teeny weeny. Yes agree with heidi, i love your outfits, am staring long and hard at your zipper trou and thinking how cool they are and then realised i have some cargo-ish ones similar but they are not flattering on me. Bizarelly they have zippers on the diagonal instead of straight across but they don't look as good as yours. Love the shot of green ones too. Good on the Queen for having a b-day!
