Bargain Boden skirt

My no clothes buying thing has been going fairly well - I've managed to stop looking at a lot of sites that encourage spending, and have only bought a couple of new items since our Austerity Programme began in August.
But, the other day I broke my vows and clicked on an email from Boden (British clothing company).
The email promised huge savings (70% off! Free shipping!)
How could I ignore it?
There weren't many things that caught my eye, but then I spotted this skirt:

I'd sort of thought about buying it earlier in the year, as I'm a bit of a stripe obsessive.
At that point, Boden didn't have prices in Aus $ and the shipping was a bit steep, so I ignored it.
Now, however, it was reduced to $44 with FREE shipping and returns! Oh Joy! How on earth could I ignore it, especially as it comes in petite sizes too!

I ordered the 6P, and hey presto! it arrived 4 days later.

it's a winner!
It's cotton with a poly lining (Dani would cringe) - the waist band has a grosgrain ribbon detail, and the quality seems good.
The fit is fairly good - it's a touch baggy around the waist, but that could be fixed by my tailor.
The length is perfect for my 5'2" stature.

A big thumbs up for the stripes matching at the seams. I loathe mis-matching seams!

Worn with J Crew cotton knit and APC sandals

I do love a surprise bargain!

How about you? Are you a fan of Boden? Any bargains recently?

  1. I tried Biden once but it doesn't cut for my figure but they must be gunning for the Aussie business bc discounts don't go that steep here. But looks nice on you.

    1. I think a few places are gunning for the Aus market - it's great to see discounts rather than massive mark-ups.
I've almost stopped looking a J Crew due to their daftly inflated prices for the O/S market!

  3. I love the skirt on you, Ruth! What a fantastic price for it, too! I have tried a couple of things from Boden in the past, but the fit was off for me, so I returned them. The clothing seems to be made really well, though. I am hoping they will offer a corduroy dress again this year, as well as a few other 'winter appropriate' ones, and will be willing to give Boden another try if they do.

    1. Hi Melissa, the fit is a touch off, but for that price I'll keep it and get it tailored at some point. It's sort of useful to have a bit of extra room for big lunches etc!
I think it's well-made; I have another skirt that is lined in cotton, which is just amazing these days.
Please report if you find a good dress!

  4. I'm team Boden too. Love that skirt on you. Boden finishes their clothes so nicely. Can't wait to stock up winter things from their range.

    1. Hi SSG, you're right: they do finish their clothes nicely. It's a pleasant surprise when you compare their prices and quality to our dreadful local labels (CR etc I'm looking at you!)

  6. Ohhhh I do love this on you and even more at that price! This is a big winner! Now crack the whip with that lolly-gagging work crew or tell them your gonna bring some Chicago muscle in to put some spring in their step...or cement shoes for a swim.

    1. Thanks GSL! I will crack the whip if I ever see them! I was thinking of donning my best dominatrix outfit with accessories and staking out the site!
Apparently, the steel frame will arrive soon, and then it will all just happen very quickly.... I'm not holding my breath.
Hope you enjoyed a drink or 5 with BB and H!

  7. Agreeing with Wendy, I have bought Boden but I try not to look very often because the duty that Canada Post charges to bring in their packages is horrendous. They have very pretty dresses and skirts though and the colours are terrific.
I'm not cringing, I give up on finding non-poly linings, even my beloved Brora has started using poly to line their dresses and some skirts. ( Although that star dress had a viscose lining which was a bit more comfortable.)
I adore this on you, I think it is very Ruth, so cheery and a bit saucy with those stripes. Well done and what a great price.

    1. That's very mean of Canada post!
What is it with the poly linings?
It used to be far more common to see silk or cotton linings. I guess prices are just too high?
      I love your star dress!

    2. I find the poly linings so confusing - it would only cost a marginal bit more to do a silk lining, but obviously margins are tight if they're all succumbing to it.

  8. Love the skirt on you Ruth - it looks fantastic, and the colours are so cheery I'm sure you're going to get a lot of wear out of it. Funnily enough I bought more Boden before they switched to the Australian site and put it all in Australian dollars.. my friends commented the same thing. Our fuzzy reckoning with the exchange meant that the clothes don't seem as cheap now! But I do like their things and have worn them a lot - better quality on the whole than J Crew I think.

  9. I love Boden and could happily outfit myself in it most days. It is a good fit for my figure (when I have a figure) as I am very short-waisted and their dresses tend to run that way. Their sweaters are also lovely -- I am addicted to their cropped cashmere cardigans. As it will now take me about a year to get back to my normal shape (that's just how it goes for me), I do not foresee any purchases in the near term, except there are some awfully cute shoes and ankle boots calling my name .... The skirt looks darling on you!
