J Crew drought is over

J Crew was a bit of an addiction for me when they first started shipping O/S in around 2011. Before they had an international site, I'd trawl through their items with great excitement, and almost always found a basketful of items I wanted. I longed whistfully for the day that they'd ship to Australia!

Once they started shipping to Aus, I bought a lot of items, most of which I still wear regularly for work: pencil skirts, mainly, plus the odd cardigan and sweater.

However, over the past 12 months I've almost stopped looking at the site. The designs didn't really appeal and the fabrics were more and more meh.
Beautiful, classic-with-a-twist rich colours had been replaced by dull, droopy overly try-hard fashion.

Apart from boys' Stanton shorts and one skirt, I don't think I've bought anything from there for almost a year.

Until last week.

Matellasse skirt - $59 after a big % discount. It's navy cotton and looks as if it will be flattering with its slighly A-lined yet hip-fitting cut.

I won't be needing this for at least 6 months, but at $104 with extra discounts, it seemed churlish not to order it as a winter staple.

This was $49 after discounts and will (I hope) be a useful addition to my skirt and top work uniform.
Although it's poly, reviews from Gigi and others suggest it's a decent poly and not too flimsy.

All of the above should arrive within the next couple of days, so I'll try to post some pics and reviews once they do.

Any experience with the above items?
Have you gone cold turkey on J Crew or are you still a fan?

    3. Aha! I have a world clock on my phone, but always forget to look! So it's Monday in the US still, and pretty cold in Chicago.
Have a lovely rest of Monday - and keep warm!

  2. Those look lovely! It's funny about JCrew, I still look and buy just not that often. I rely on them for my son who needs tall sizes, and MrBP gets a few things from JCrew every season.
Still there are gems, I bought a metallic floral dress in October and I have worn it and loved it. I've also bought tall toothpick jeans on sale, and the Pixie pants, my daily uniform has changed to sturdy jeans or trousers because of all my time at the park with Scout... it's like I'm a young Mum again ;)
Please do review! Hope you're well Darling, hang in there!xo

    1. I do still look from time-to-time, but not nearly as often as previously.
You're right that there are a few gems, but it's often hard to work out if a style will fit, and I'm a shocker on doing returns....just way too disorganised and lazy to do them!
I'm awaiting the skirt then I'll do a review!

  4. I'm still a big J.Crew fan, especially since I mostly buy from the sale section (yay for opposite season), sooo much cheaper and more interesting than Witchery/CR. I still have a pair of JC boots I bought in NYC on my honeymoon 9 years ago! Your purchases are lovely BTW xx

    1. Yes, the opposite seasons work well - I rarely buy from the non sale section!
I have stopped looking at Witchery as the fabrics there and at CR make me weep

  5. I have tried the drapey top many times and probably going to get it in black or blush.
The 0 fit me and i liked the drape-y ness of it,but i could have also fit into the 00.

    1. HI Ina, I ordered the size P0 and it arrived last night and seems to fit well.
I reckon the P00 would have been even better. I'll post some pics and reviews over the weekend.
I think it's a good top - black or blush would be good

  6. I know what you mean, I haven't been much of a J Crew shopper as of late, but I am so thankful for all the lovely ladies I got to meet through the JCA blog, you of course being one of them! I hope you're doing well, darling!

    1. You're so right, AB, it's through the J Crew blogs that I 'met' heaps of lovely women and was inspired to start this blog!
I'm doing well, thanks - how about you?

    2. I'm hanging in there! Just lots of grading between papers and finals, and final grades, and kind of having a midlife crisis with the academic world. But other than that, just fine :)

  7. I used to wear J.Crew almost exclusively several years ago, but only buy from them occasionally as of late. I've been much more enamored with Madewell over the past year or so, so they've been getting more of my $$$. I hope all of your goodies work out well for you...looking forward to your reviews! :)

    1. How I wish Madewell shipped overseas! I'd be buying lots of things if they did.
Will post a review over the weekend, I hope!
      Thanks for visiting Melissa!

  10. It used to be that I bought nearly 100% of my wardrobe from J. Crew, but I have bought hardly anything from them over the past year or so. I have really gone off J. Crew, not sure if it is my personal style that has changed or the brand itself. However, as mentioned above, I have met so many wonderful like-minded people via J. Crew Aficionada, and I am very thankful for that!

Happy New Year to you and your family!! I hope the renovations are going smoothly!
